Compensation:  Current Negotiated 2023-2024 Salary Schedule 

Overtime Status:  Exempt

 

Position Summary:

The Inpatient Facility Teacher is responsible for providing educational support and instruction to individuals receiving inpatient care within Spring Creek Kids, CREOKS treatment facility. This role aims to promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of patients, enabling them to continue their education during their stay in the facility.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications/Job Requirements:

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education or equivalent certification(s)

 

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc:

  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Mild/Moderate or Severe/Profound Special Education preferred.  

Other:

  • Experience in special education or teaching in a healthcare setting is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and patients' families.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work with individuals facing health or emotional challenges.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to relevant educational and healthcare regulations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Curriculum Development:
      • Implement district-provided online curriculum.
      • Adapt and develop instructional materials and curriculum plans based on patients' IEP, 504, or Individualized Learning Plans, ensuring alignment with state educational standards.
      • Integrate appropriate teaching strategies and accommodations to meet diverse learning needs.
    • Instruction and Classroom Management:
      • Perform applicable job functions of a classroom teacher.
      • Deliver classroom instruction in a manner that engages and motivates patients while maintaining a safe and productive learning environment.
      • Monitor and manage classroom behavior, addressing any behavioral or emotional challenges that may arise.
      • Provide for the physical, social, and educational needs of the students.
      • Perform skilled, professional-level tasks under limited supervision to provide the appropriate teaching strategies and environment for student learning. This includes but is not limited to; developing lesson plans, teaching, evaluating student progress, assigning grades, accomplishing curriculum objectives, and utilizing discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment to meet the challenges of the job.
    • Collaboration:
      • Collaborate with the healthcare team, including doctors, therapists, and social workers, to ensure continuity of care and education.
      • Maintain open communication with patients' families or guardians to keep them informed of educational progress.
    • Assessment and Progress Tracking:
      • Conduct regular formative and summative assessments to track patients' academic progress and adjust instructional plans as needed.
      • Maintain accurate records of attendance, coursework, and academic outcomes.
    • Special Education or 504 Services:
      • Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans for each patient in collaboration with relevant professionals and guardians.
      • Provide specialized instruction for patients with disabilities, ensuring compliance with relevant special education regulations and accommodations.
      • Monitor the implementation of IEPs.
      • Ensure IEP goals are being met for each student.

    Crisis Intervention:

    • Be prepared to respond to educational crises or behavioral incidents in a calm and effective manner, in consultation with the healthcare team.
    • Professional Development:
      • Stay up-to-date on educational best practices, trends, and advancements, especially those related to teaching students in a healthcare setting.
      • Attend and complete required district professional development.
      • Be willing to complete Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) training 
    • Safety and Compliance:
      • Maintain a safe classroom environment and adhere to all healthcare facility protocols and regulations, including patient confidentiality and privacy.
      • Know student triggers or warning signs. Be able to recognize if something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and notify the appropriate staff. 

    Other:

    • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
    • Present a professional appearance.
    • As an employee assigned to a healthcare facility there will be regular contact with patrons, students, and staff, so employees must interpret and translate facts and information; explain situations and issues; identify alternative courses of action; and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • The noise level in the work environment can be loud.  
  • Some exposure to student behavior may be physical and confrontational.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift, sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs.
